Land Acquisition
Background
Our organisation was formed initially to purchase and maintain pockets of land that are vital spaces for local communities and wildlife, but are overlooked by larger organisations. We first achieved this by crowdfunding the acquisition of “Tamarstone” meadow. Our latest purchase is Pansom Middle Bridge and we continue to look for other suitable land.
Pansom Middle Bridge
Panson Middle Bridge is a 26 acre wet meadow, that has hundreds of metres of river frontage. The site has been outside of agriculture for 20 years, and very species rich, and visited regularly by wild beavers, otters and deer. Panson Bridge is within 2 miles of the main Rewilding Coombeshead 400 acre site and fits with our vision of creating a bio diverse area in west Devon.
Tamarstone Meadow
Tamarstone Meadow is a tiny triangular oasis of life. Bordered on two sides by water and on the third, a busy road.
This wetland somehow escaped the rigours of intensive agriculture. Rare and species rich we felt securing its future was important for KiW and it became our first land purchase. We Crowdfunded the purchase and allowed this wonderful little island to continue to thrive and be a refugia for plants and animals.
